Weaving the Web of Wyrd. 6 August 2008, London.

Wednesday 6th August – Francis Cameron
“Weaving the Web of Wyrd”.
It is now more than twenty years since I read Brian Bates on the subject of the Wyrd. It didn’t do much for me then but last autumn I joined a Continuing Education class to learn Old English language and AngloSaxon culture and now I am experiencing the Wyrd from the inside, as it were, rather than just reading about it as an outsider. Dictionaries generally translate ‘Wyrd’ as ‘Fate’ or ‘Destiny’. How wrong they are! Wyrd is the way in which each one of us creates our own future. There is nothing of an all-powerful Fate about it. In fact every time we make a choice we weave our own portion of the Web of Wyrd. Most times we do this quite unconsciously. When we do it consciously things really begin to happen - as I shall show in my talk.

The Secret Chiefs meet fortnightly on Wednesday evenings upstairs at the Devereux public house (20 Devereux Court, off Essex Street, London WC2). Nearest tube is Temple. Meet from 7.30pm and the talk starts at 8.30pm. Admission is £2 (£1 concs). All are welcome.
